At the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich took on PSG and appeared to be in control of the game because they were only defending their 1-0 lead from the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 encounter and exerting pressure on PSG’s defense with their quick and aggressive style of play. Even though Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe were only given the opportunity to take a few half-chance shots, PSG was able to fend them off and dominate the majority of the first half. Achraf Hakimi’s grab of Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer after he put himself into trouble gave PSG the clearest opportunity of the opening period. Matthijs de Ligt was able to make a clearance as Vitinha attempted to shoot at an open goal but failed to make solid touch with the ball.
In the PSG vs Bayern Munich 0-3 match both teams had numerous chances to score as the first half went on, but neither was able to do so. The PSG goalkeeper made many amazing stops to keep Bayern Munich at bay as the audience sat on the edge of their seats, cheering on their team and praying for a breakthrough.
Both teams fought for possession of the ball as the second half got underway. However, Bayern Munich began to exert greater control as the game went on, putting pressure on PSG’s defense and the goalie, which led to more scoring opportunities. Just after the hour mark, Bayern Munich deservedly took the lead. Donnarumma’s pass puts Verratti in danger. Goretzka puts pressure on him, and Muller takes away his possessions. The Bayern Munich captain sends a pass to Goretzka, who leaves it there for Choupo-Moting to score. PSG has a mountain to climb now.
PSG now in need of two goals and they looked flat and out of ideas at this point. Mbappe had a bad night overall, and Messi wasn’t much better, but much of the blame fell on PSG’s midfield for failing to give them the required service. As they were seeking those two goals Bayern Munich was looking another to seal the win and in the dying minutes of the game they did. Near the Bayern area, Kimmich deftly flicks Verratti off the ball before launching a counterattack. Cancelo uses up a lot of ground before passing the ball to Gnabry, who approaches the box, draws Donnarumma, and scores with a powerful effort that deflects off the goalkeeper and into the net. In the last moments, Mbappe did pose a threat, but Alphonso Davies made a great tackle to block his path.
When PSG attempted to launch a comeback, Bayern Munich’s defense stood firm and kept them from scoring. Bayern Munich won by a score of 2-0 as the game came to an end, and they celebrated with their supporters.
