I had a chance to re-watch this match, and I see one little odd thing in Bayern's defensive block and I'm sure it was from Nagi himself since this had happened more than 3 times consecutively in this match. Still a mix of flat 4-4-2/4-1-4-1, but this time Goreztka was the temporal single pivot instead of Kimmich like we would often see. Nagelsmann must have found a good solution to cover Kimmich's awful physique that made him unable to handle the overwhelming defensive burden of a single pivot. And yes, Kimmich still had the aggression and sensitive mind to make himself a considerable threat when Bayern high-press, being higher means less danger for Bayern to face quick attacking situation. Hope he will maintain this change in the coming matches.

Bayern not at his very best…lol. Bayern destroyed every team in the best group, and was the only team that got 18 points….please kid, you can do better. Good luck. By the way you could try to understand tactics better.

That match was already played on the past.
World Cup 2014 Brazil vs Germany 1-7. Leftback (Marcelo) was just play like him (high and bad in defence) and left a highway for Thomas Muller to explore.
Now Balde was not stupid, but it was Xavi who forced Balde to play much higher in order to pick-up Bayern fullback.
    What a mess.
Bayern is my Team fromb 98/99 (I was born in 90) and I'm proud.
But that was to easy for them to win.
    Farewell, RL9.

Bayern spent 200 million in 3 years for their central defenders (Hernandez, Upamecano, De Ligt). Not to mention players like Alphonso Davies. They have an incredible defense and a superb attac. Sane and Müller weren't even playing. Musiala is the new super star, Gnabry and Coman are fighting for the other spot.

I think if a world class striker like Lewandowski doesn’t get a single shot on target, his manager must have done something seriously wrong. Thus I would give Xavi less than 6 performance points.

I see it this way. Xavi packs all 10 men into opposition half and play ping pong football. Against small La Liga teams this works. As their defense is weak, some of the shots will go in. Against quality defense Barca will struggle to get a shot on target. On turnover La Liga teams struggle to get the high ball to their strikers in a good spot. Even if by luck it falls, there are no quality strikers to score these. But if there is a quality striker and midfielder combination, Barca will concede on most turnovers.

its funny how people is reacting to this match, amazed by bayern perfomance and dissapointed with barça. The only reason the game went that way is that one team was already eliminated before the game even started, that is psychology speaking, too much for a team to overcome in a high level game. The real difference between 2 teams was seen on the first game in munich, were barça was superior 80% of the game.

This truly felt like a battle of quality. Barca has a lot of quality of course, particularly up front and in the midfield, however currently in the defense there are problems. HAving to play bellerin and Alonso with a 58 meter high line is suicidal against players of quality such as Mane. Even with Barcas front three, in particular Dembele, there is a lack of correct decision making. There were times Dembele and Phonzie were isolated in a 1v1 and Dembele actually passed him, only to make a for cross or slow down the play. I also think people forget the mental aspect of the game. I personally thought that Barcelonas hearts were not in the game from the start, which let Bayern to play to their advantages even more. If Inter had lost, I'd expect a very different game from what we got.

Gotta give credit to the titanic performances from Upamecano and specially De Ligt who handled those situations where barca did find a way through. 0 shots on target received is incredible

  10. Funhistani

Alphonso Davies' speed was a great asset in the game. He nullified both Dembele and Bellerin and stopped any crosses to Lewa. And Balde is too inexperienced for such an important game

Xavi est resté dans le passé. Il veut imposer une tactique passée à des joueurs qui ne sont pas du tout au niveau de ceux de l’époque. Il faut s’adapter à son adversaire 😅
